Hundertwassers' most famous piece?
The Kawakawa toilets! These toilets were designed by Hundertwasser in 1999 and are the only building designed by him in the Southern Hemisphere. They are the last architectural piece he designed before his death in 2000. Hundertwasser used recycled materials from the local community, including glass bottles and bricks from an old building. He also requested that any plants removed during construction were re-planted on the roof when the building was completed. The style is typical of him; using wavy lines, irregular ceramic tiles, integrated small sculptures, coloured glass and a live tree. |
Your task:
You have been hired to design a new building for school in the style of Friedensreich Hundertwasser, keep in mind that he used bright colours and didn’t like straight lines.
What does your building look like? What purpose does it have? Where would it fit on the school site?
Create your building/s using cardboard and any other recyclable materials you have at home. Draw on inspirations from his New Zealand creations.
If you can’t create a building you can draw a picture of the school in Hundertwasser style - don’t forget bright colours and non-linear lines.
Please share your work on your class padlet and bring it to school for our showcase.
