Wednesday 29th April
Your challenge today will hopefully make up for the failure of our salt volcanoes last week.
Today, I am challenging you to make your own lava lamp using vinegar, oil, food colouring and baking soda. The measurements aren't exact, have a go at trying different ratios and observing what changes in the reactions but remember to record exactly how much of each ingredient you have used and what happened during the reaction.
You will need:
- oil (I used canola oil)
- white vinegar
- baking soda slurry (2 parts baking soda:3 parts water
- food colouring (optional)
- a tall glass or container to complete your reactions
Some questions I would like you to answer:
- What is causing the bubbles? What gas is being released?
- Why don't the vinegar and oil mix together?
- Why does the food colouring not mix with the oil?

Think of a beautiful landscape scene and draw it.
But don't colour it in!!!
Instead of colouring your picture fill the spaces with the correct nouns spelt correctly.
If you want to extend your vocabulary you could add descriptive language as well.
eg. glowing sun, rolling hills
Remember to post your pictures on the blog for us all to see.

Hi Poets,
Your challenge today is to explore poetry and have a go at writing some of your own. There are 3 different options for todays challenge and, as usual, it is completely up to you which option you take (you might even do all 3). I have also added a 'dive deeper' option for those of you who really enjoy poetry. Don't forget to share your poems to your class padlets. |
